  • social network/ Project Manager for Makers/Hackers

I have had this idea for a couple of years and have not been able to implement it on my own. I thought JustHackThis had implemented my idea, it is similar but does not have the project management/social networking features.

    Idea:
A combination of Sourceforge, facebook/myspace and a little project managment but not limited to just code. You can upload schematics, cad drawings or even a scan of a napkin drawing. Let others see your projects and see if they want to help out (this feature is similar to this site)

Instructables has a collaboration feature but the whole site seems to more aimed at telling others than sharing ideas and accomplishing them.
Comicspace.com is a similar idea based around the comic book creation.

Fore the project management, can you include a feature that allows you to add an annotation layer to live webpages, similar to what they have in photoshop, but just for web sites? This would be amazingly helpful for web development.

I have install elgg on my home apache server.
I don't really know any php, a little python and lua but I am looking into what widgets/ plug-ins will need to be added to make it minimally functional.

Anyone will php skills that could just provide direction would be great.
    Thanks

Have you found any sites that lets one define more complex projects than just "do X".
    e.g., 43things, or shoulddothis.com.

I enjoy halfbakery, but many real projects require more complex structure of goals and sub-goals.

    contact me to discuss

Basecamp used to have a free version, that was stripped down. It would be cool to allow users to create as basic or as complex teams and goals as they want to.

Thanks for the response. I am an EE so building complex websites is outside of my skill set(for now hahaha). I am looking into some open source social network systems. Just found Elgg.org but I have not installed it yet.
